Check Engine Light - Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Check Engine Light tells you when a problem/malfunction occurs within the engine management system.
The Check Engine Light may stay on, flash or shoe intermittently depending upon the type of engine-electrical fault.
>The Check Engine Light may remain on until the fault has been diagnosed, repaired and reset.
A built-in computer will store one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) to help vehicle technicians identify the fault.
A fault-code reader is plugged into the on-board computer via the vehicle diagnostic connector.
The ignition circuit will emit a number or set of numbers that relating to the relevant fault code descriptions and indicate the circuits or components generating a fault
The Fault Code, however, does not directly indicate any parts to be replaced.
